Frequently Asked Questions
Do freestanding electric patio heaters need a special outdoor socket?
Freestanding electric patio heaters should be connected to a weatherproof outdoor socket with RCD (residual current device) protection. If you do not have an outdoor socket, we recommend having one installed by a qualified electrician. Never use an indoor extension lead outdoors or connect to an indoor socket via a cable run through a door or window.
How far does a freestanding electric patio heater reach?
The effective heating range depends on the wattage of the heater. A 2kW freestanding electric heater typically provides comfortable warmth within a radius of 3–4 metres. Higher wattage models cover a larger area. Infrared heaters are most effective when positioned to direct heat toward people rather than open space.
Can I leave a freestanding electric patio heater outside?
Most freestanding electric patio heaters are designed for outdoor use and carry an IP44 or higher weatherproof rating, making them suitable for use in light rain. However, we recommend storing them indoors or under a weatherproof cover when not in use to prolong the life of the unit and maintain its appearance.
